“When we long for life without difficulties, remind us that oaks grow strong in contrary winds and diamonds are made under pressure” - Peter Marshall

My Journey
My journey as a jewellery artist didn’t begin in a studio but in the depths of personal struggle. I didn’t set out to be a jewellery designer; I set out to heal.
As a young person, I experienced violence and abuse. This trauma led me through three breakdowns in my twenties and thirties. My struggle to heal often felt bleak, and the hope for a prosperous future seemed almost nonexistent.
At 19, I was introduced to Buddhism. Buddhism teaches you to take the saddest story and transform it into value and beauty - for yourself and others. This philosophy gave me an empowering perspective on pain and shame from the experiences of my youth.
With this profound perspective, I began to reframe my struggles - understanding that I could use adversity to produce something great. Diamonds are forged under immense pressure, and I was a diamond in the rough. I just had to dig deep to unearth and polish the diamond within.
Transformational Moments
My pain had power and purpose. My journey of transformation became an opportunity to become a pioneer for change, not a product of my past.
I started a jewellery course but dropped out due to mental health. I booked a ticket to India, taking one piece of jewellery in my pocket with a small hope that I could finish it there.
I’ve always had a natural love for the healing properties of stones. Every year, I’d travel to India to source unique gems and have something made. But this time, I wanted to create a meaningful and powerful piece of jewellery myself.
I felt out of my depth. The CPTSD symptoms I was experiencing were strong. I didn’t know anyone in the business and had only a basic knowledge of jewellery-making, but I had to see if I could finish this one piece of jewellery in my pocket.
I discovered a jewellery workshop in Goa. They took me under their wing and helped me finish my Greek Goddess armband.
This experience sparked the alchemisation of trauma into powerful creativity. This was the perfect opportunity to create my first collection. I hired a bench and began working.
My inspiration was to create a collection that symbolised overcoming trauma. I wanted to share this message with others and remind them of their power - that they, too, could overcome. I felt excited by this, and in that moment, I knew this was what my jewellery was meant to be about - purpose.
Each ring I made was stunningly beautiful, but when I wore them, they ignited a deep power within me - my sovereignty. Powerful talismans that were statements of my conviction that I could transform. My designs - born from the depths of personal struggle - became a reflection of that embodied shift. It was already done.
Building a Movement
Tourists began noticing my pieces and loved the collection. I made my first commission - the Healing Queen - and this was the natural birth of Rosie Odette.
Years later, an old school friend contacted me about buying a ring. After chatting, we realised we had both suffered abuse. We thought, "Right, let’s do something." We discovered a charity called Tender, which educates young people in schools about healthy relationships to prevent domestic abuse and violence.
I was drawn to Tender's work because, like Buddhism, it focuses on changing the cause to create a different effect. We funded a Tender education project at our old school where I studied art.
This experience profoundly impacted me. I thought: ‘If I had the help of Tender, I could have stopped the violence, which could have changed the trajectory of my life.’
Experiencing the power of Tender’s work ignited a desire to be part of a grassroots movement in education - one that would prevent history from repeating itself.
I asked myself: How could I create a powerful movement for change through jewellery?
I designed a collection of necklaces featuring an acorn, which symbolises the power of one - the potential of one person to become a great oak. Tender’s work embodies the journey from the acorn to the mighty oak, representing the small steps that will one day create a significant effect in society.
Invitation
We all carry trauma, yet we live in a society that hides it. We need education to shine a light on it - to look at it, feel it, and heal it.
It takes courage to heal. It’s a process of restoring dignity and reclaiming your power. Without healing, you cannot transform yourself.
I realised that sharing my transformation - from the acorn to the oak - could help others grow. The impact of one person’s story can influence another and spark change in society.
As a purpose-led artist, I empower individuals to change their story, inspiring them to take their pain and defeat and turn it into victory - embodying this alchemy with precious metals and stones. It’s more than jewellery; it’s a movement that inspires the power of one.
When you transform your story, you powerfully show up in the world.
One person rewriting their story is the spark that could rewrite history.
Your jewellery is your story: it all starts with You.
